sukima no ma

sukima no ma is a collaborative 3-day art show that took place in the backyard and the first floor of my parent’s house in Osaka, Japan. The aims of this project are the following:
1. Exploration of alternative notions of private/public properties and sense of community through minimal spatial and programmatic reorganization. (Such as insertion of public functions into private spaces and vice versa.)
2. Exploration of alternative ways of practicing art and architecture – collaboration and community involvement
3. Establishment of a “Salon” – networking and exchange of individual resources and dialogues through workshop, art show, barter.

Artworks were installed in the backyard and the first floor of the house. To maintain the functions assigned to the house as private living space, the circulation of the art show was separated from the main house circulation (see plan A). People are invited through the slit of space between my parent’s house and the neighbor’s house to get to the backyard. The door in the first floor bathroom became an entrance to the first floor gallery space.
